what is xbox live and what do you need to get it?

I know nothing about this type of thing but my 10 year old son wants an xbox 360 with a kinnect for his birthday. I've been trying to understand it and think this means an xbox 360 console which you can play games on and then a kinnect console which can be hooked up to the xbox to play games where you use your own movements rather than a controller.

My question is though, what is xbox live? I've asked a few friends and know it has something to do with playing games against other people but there seems to be a head set involved and maybe needs to hook up to the internet or telephone line???

Also wanted to just ask what GB memory I would need to get for the xbox 360 console.

Sorry to sound so clueless about it but its completely foreign to me and I don't have loads of money so only want to get what he really needs and not be conned into buying extras I don't need.

Well, Xbox Live is basically where you can play your games with friends via the internet.



You need: A Wi-Fi connection (BT Home Hub, Talk Talk etc.), the new Xbox can connect wirelessly to this, so no adaptor is required.



A headset is optional, and you only really need it if you want to communicate with your friends, and normally you get one free with the Xbox.



Personally, I think Xbox Live makes the Xbox much better, although it does cost around £40 a year.



Also, I would recommend you do not purchase the xbox with only 4GB memory.

I have an xbox with 250GB memory, and that is more than enough, personally I would recommend perhaps a 16GB xbox.

Xbox live is on the used with an internet connection to play games with other people which is called a "party" you can talk to them with a head set which you can buy or shouldve came with your Xbox console or you can talk to people through text. You have to buy Xbox live in a store and it expires after a few months depending on how long you've picked. On xbox live you can buy games for your xbox and add-ons or map-packs. Kinect is a sensor used to play games using your movements.

its the online feature of the xbox franchise you will need a wired connection or a wireless adaptor for your xbox unless you have the newest xbox where its already built in, you will also need to buy gold membership should you wish to experience live to the max these cost roughly £30 and you can but them in most game shops and supermarkets you will then get a card with a little code and instructions on where to type it in on your xbox, you will then have xbox live for a mounth and be abled to talk to firends and play with them online. hope i helped and didnt sound like a robot :) soz spelling
