I am toying with the idea of getting a x-box 360 for at home so that my daughter and partner can fight endlessly over it (I must be mad). What is the big deal with this thing? Other than it being a "gaming sensation" with fantastic graphics what else does it do?? Is it going to do anything for me like get the vacum out, make me a cuppa tea, do the beds or massage my feet???? Serioulsy what else does it do???

Thanks for everybodies time xxx

Ooooh this is awsome!!

It won't vacuum, make your tea, fix the beds or massage your feet....... but if you buy it for your daughter & partner.... they may do all that for you! LOL

The xbox 360 can play DVDs (and HD-DVD's if you buy the expansion).... you can use it to play games either solo, multiplayer or online multiplayer against people all over the world....... you can use the xbox live feature to download movies, tv shows, classic arcade games..... you can even download this zune software on your computer from the xbox web site and link up your computer to share your media files (videos, music and pictures) with your xbox 360 console. (you have to have the computer and the xbox on the same network for this to work; however. Which means you have to have a router with your computer and the xbox plugged into their own individual ports on the router. There are other ways, but a router would be the easiest way.)

Just keep in mind that to do all that stuff you'll need to get more than just the core bundle. For xbox live and for saving games you need a hard drive which is not included in the core bundle and would need to be purchased separately. The core bundle also comes with a standard wired controller where as the premium bundle comes with both a 20Gb hard drive AND a wireless controller instead. (if you're into wireless, that is great!)

The only problem is that some xboxes have been having overheating problems and they've been dying. My fiancee bought me an xbox 360 (I love her!! :D) and after only owning it for 2 months it died on me. I don't believe it was an overheating problem, but something in it just gave up on life and i got the dreaded 3 red lights of doom. Fortunately, microsoft is covering it (since it's only 2 months old) and they shipped me an empty box for me to ship the faulty xbox to them. It's frustrating, but patience is a virtue. Microsoft has also extended the warranty on all xboxes to 3 years so you'll have that extra coverage if anything goes wrong.

The xbox 360 is like a full multimedia console that can do quite a bit. I was actually amazed by it's capabilities when i got mine. It's really a cool system! They'll love you for it! :-)

BEFORE BUYING IT. CHECK OUT THE LATEST NEWS ABOUT THE XBOX 360

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070706/ap_o...

Also the Xbox Elite will have the same components that are still Made In China. I bought a Xbox 360 Premium in Oct 2006 and now it gave me a 3 red ring light. Im planning to return it and get my money back. Im not confident and playing xbox console anymore.

UK-based games consoles repair company Micromart has been fixing video game systems for over a decade. On its website it advertises that it will repair PlayStation 2, original Xbox, PSP and replace screens for other handheld systems.

Micromart, which used to repair the Xbox 360, has posted a notice on its website that it “has now withdrawn from offering a repair service for the dreaded 3 Red Lights fault.”

The company states that, “This problem is endemic on the Xbox 360 console and the volume has made this repair non-viable.” Micromart will also no longer fix Xbox 360 consoles that display screen freezing problems. The company, however, will continue to support all other repairs to the consoles.

“We were seeing about 30 a week before we pulled the plug on the service,” said Micromart’s Jeff Croft to GamesIndustry. “We saw it over a period of several months and it was just getting worse. It began towards the end of last year. Once the twelve month warranty finished then we started to see more and more machines being sent in to be looked at.”

“The work we had done to the console lead us to believe that basically it was a fault with the motherboard and not something that could be resolved easily. And it wasn't going to go away,” continued Croft.

“We're not taking that thing on board; we won't repair them. We originally did some work with it but it's labour intensive and it isn't really a feasible repair for us to undertake. We would probably end up charging GBP 100 [$202] for a repair and we still wouldn't be happy with the end result,” he added.

Do not buy the Elite. Buy the PS3 instead. Finally, the PS3 price drop. 499 dollars now. 100 bucks off.

Aside from playing regular xbox and xbox 360 games, the machine can also play any media from your computer and have it displayed on your tv. (music, pictures, movies, etc.)

Not sure about a foot rub, though. Maybe the next console released will have that feature.... =)

Oh yeah, Microsoft just extended their replacement warranty to 3 years.

Buy a PS3 it won't break on you and it will play blueray movies and browse the internet. The Xbox 360 has a very high failure rate around 30%. I personally went through 3 of them before I traded it in for a playstation 3 and have had not a single issue. Plus its much QUIETER

Don't listen to the PS3 nut huggers...the 360 is the better machine.

It may not directly do those things, but indirectly you can still get those things done by withholding the xbox from them until they do them.

If it breaks, it might give you a major headache.
