I wanted to watch some videos that I have on my USB flash drive on my Xbox 360. I got this Xbox for Christmas last year, so it is fairly new, and it has all the updates. When I tried to play the video on the Xbox, an error came up and said that the file type was not supported. I already have the Optional Media Update, so I should be able to play MP4s and AACs, but it won't let me. I have not experimented with WMVs or any other video type yet...

What can I do to fix this problem?

The Xbox can't play all MP4s. It depends on the codecs required to play the video. While your computer has many codecs built in, the xbox does not. This limits the videos that can be played through USB, even if they are listed under the supported video extension list.

You can work around this by going to the Xbox Windows Media Center. Open Windows Media Center on your PC and click "add extender." Once configured, many more videos that are on your computer can be streamed to your Xbox.

It takes some time to set up but it's easier than converting every unsupported video.
