Just bought an Xbox for Christmas partly to use for Netflix streaming. I was very angry when I realized you have to have GOLD to watch it. They really expect you to PAY for something you can do for FREE on countless other devices, including other game systems??? Absurd.

I 100% agree. Me being a new xbox owner (I've been PS in the past) there was no good reason for me to assume that i'd have to pay to use a free app like youtube, or pay just to use an app that's free for Microsoft to load into their OS like Netflix (Microsoft didn't write the netflix app for xbox). The fact that some people suggest you should have known, or you could easily look that up is ridiculous. It is akin to planning a road trip, and in the middle of North Dakota hitting a toll road that doesn't connect to anything special. You could have looked that up, but should you expect something like that? NO.

This kind of thing is what drives an entire generation away from a platform in my opinion, by leaving a bad taste in their mouth from the price gouging. I doubt if i'll be able to, but i'm going to try and return my xbox. Playstation obviously packed more hardware into their unit, aside from the kinect, and doesn't price gouge it's customers over free services they "ALLOW" to be added into their store.

I gave MS the benefit of a doubt, thinking my entertainment experience might be better w an xbox (and possibly cheaper w dvr capabilities of the future), only to find that i need a gold subscription to pull up a guide for my comcast service on the xbox, and in the end pay even more money than i already am. Try saying XBOX DISCOVERY and see if it actually changes to that channel. Intentionally done poorly to get me to poney up for a gold subscription just to look at a tv guide? Well done MS, you have put off a former advocate. Two of my friends that i've tried to disuade from buying a PS4 are now going to hear from me again, and i'll be telling them to not get an xbox, even though i won't be able to play online with them which sucks. Well done MS, your gold subscription requirements have cost you at least two additional console purchases. That will take you at least 16 years of my gold subscription service to make up that difference, not counting game and other purchases that would have been made.

I can't believe of all the ways MS can make money with their consoles, that they thought this would be a good idea w concern to marketshare. It's Christmas morning, and i'm enraged that we spent money on this POS money pit.

I'm sorry to say, that yeah you need CHICKEN ******* NUGGET GOLD to play Netflix. Microsoft is a stinker (no let's use a better word....THEY ARE BITCHH MONKEY'S) about letting you do stuff without Xbox Live Gold. Now I hope you have a wonderful day, and don't pick those other answers as the best answer. Pick me. You know you want to. You can feel it in yourself. I know. I can feel into your soul. Give me the best answer. (this mind control isn't working...time for phase 2) GIVE ME THE ******* BEST ANSWER OR I SWEAR I'LL **** *** * ** **** ****** ***** *********************************!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's INSANE how MS charges for something you can do FREE on EVERY OTHER CONSOLE. They are going OUT OF THERE WAY to effectively levy a TAX on something that is not even a drain on their network! This is between YOU and YOUR ISP. It is EPIC ABSURDITY and GREED that has become synonymous with Microsoft. I should have know better than to recently buy one-I knew there had to be a reason they were selling them so cheap-even above and beyond the reason of XBox 1 coming out. Shameful, utterly shameful and disgusting. The best part? There are actually Microsoft fan-boys and paid trolls so far gone in the head, they are attempting to defend this practice of Microsoft's.

Yes. You do need a Gold subscription to watch Netflix. Anytime my Gold subscription has expired and I try watching Netflix I get a message that my Netflix app is currently unavailable.

Done with MS. Done with waiting for Win 7 to boot up. Done with Xbox Gold. Done with their server licensing. Goodbye. Hello, Mac!

Get a WiiU, easier to use, and you watch Netflix, and Amazon for FREE!!! I have 2 Xbox360s, and would trade them for a pile of dog ****! I got the WiiU back in may and LOVE it! Trust me, a much better product, and Nintendo has awesome CS.

You need gold for a lot of apps even if you already have a sub for them which I think it completely ridiculous on M$'s part, I can't support them on that one.
