xbox error e - 74 help please?

Question

i turned on my xbox 360 today, and one red ring of death appeared. a message appeared in lots of different languages, then it said error E-74. how do i fix this? (just remember please dont tell me to break it all apart and do something like that, as i am only 11)

Put two tooth picks in the back of the console (in the holes), and jam the fans. Wait until it overheats and two lights come on. Then turn it off, unplug everything, take the toothpicks out, plug everything back in and turn it on. It worked for me. This does not require you to open up the Xbox.



Edit: They only make you pay if your Xbox is out of warranty.

Had the same error this Saturday. Gave xbox support a ring on 0800 5871102, and told them the error code, and they said USP would come to pick it up this week (3-5 days), and to make sure it was boxed ready for the courier. Today USP arrived, and took the xbox away for repair, so just a matter of waiting now for return. Also got a free month of xbox live, due to this happening.

Have your 360 serial number ready, when you ring. its fully covered for 3 years, so no worries.

if you send it to microsoft they will make you pay for the repairs. it is only free if you have 3 red lights flashing, not only one. You will either have to pay a bunch to get it fixed, or brave fixing it yourself.

Or you can try being dishonest like the other answers and lie to microsoft saying you have 3 red lights instead of 1, but that would be a bit fraudulent if you ask me.

CALL Microsoft and they will send you a box that you put it in and you will wait two weeks and then they well send you your xbox back with a month free of live !

no no no! dnt open it! call mircosoft and tell them it has 3 red rings not one but 3! "ring of death" microsoft will repair it for you! good luck
