I have an XBOX 360 and I want to get an HDMI cable for it. My question is, will the HDMI cable transfer the audio too? Also, is that the only thing I need to plug into my tv?
Note-I am not connected to any speakers. My audio comes straight from the TV
Note-I am referring to 3rd party HDMI cables. I'm not paying $50 for the microsoft one when I can get the same quality for $20.

My friend has a HDMI TV, and she uses straight cable, and she gets the audio as well as picture without using any other cable.

I have the XBOX ELite, and to my dismay, my monitor only has DVI connection, so I got a cable adaptor, only to discover that the audio does not work, and so I have to use the stubby connector (comes with the XBOX as audio only out), to get Audio out as well.

I also noted that there are 5 standards for DVI, and the latest will overtake HDMI again with WQUXGA (3840 × 2400) resolution.

The reason behind industry push to use HDMI, is it complies with the Digital Rights Management Code (making it impossible to pirate or intercept the signal for reprocessing, like to make a copy or redirect to another device)

Yes, HDMI is for all video and all sound.

And the twenty dollar cables are more likely to go out on you. And generally the more the cables are the longer they'll last, generally.

Also, if you do go the twenty dollar cable route, and you lose sound, try flipping the cable around so the end that was plugged into the TV would now be plugged into the XBox. This happened to me and now I have sound again.
