I recently bought an Xbox 360. I attempted to access Xbox live but it failed on ip address. My internet provider is AOL Platinum using a BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem and their "dialbb" connection. I am using the cable provided with my xbox which has "Foxconn E204149I (UL) Type CM 75 OC STP 26AWG 2 Pairs Patch cable) written on it. I searched on the Xbox live guide forum it said in the Xbox 360 dashboard, move to the System section.
b. Select Network Settings.
c. Select Edit Settings.
d. Enter the following:• IP Address : 192.168.0.2
• Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
• Default Gateway : 192.168.0.1
• DNS server (Primary): 192.168.0.1
• DNS server (Secondary): 192.168.0.1

as well as setting up internet connection sharing.

This worked and finally i was connected and my xbox 360 updated for the first time. Immediately it requested another update but failed and i have not been able to connect again. AOL have said that i cannot connect my Xbox with them via the ethernet cable i am using and must purchase a crossover over cable (system link cable). I need to know if this cable still connects my xbox to my pc via the ethernet slot on my pc as i don't have one stating RJ45 against it before i go ahead and purchase one. Also i cannot understand how i managed to connect once using the equiptment and set up as stated above and yet not since my xbox got updated to the new xbox live screen. Please is there anyone who has had this problem and managed to sort it out. AOL keep telling me to contact Microsoft because they don't know how to set up Xbox live and Microsoft are then telling me to contact AOL because they're not trained in AOL. Its a head spinning circle at the moment.

get the hell out of here, you really still use aol..

come on there's verizon, comcast, embarq, at&t, all that and it's cheaper than that, why even bother with all that just to play on your xbox

If you connect it through your computer, that is using the usb modem, then sure; But you cant directly connect the usb modem to the xbox 360, for that you need to buy Microsoft's overpriced wireless card...
