How do I fix the MTU on my XBox 360 when it fails a test?

I have a linksys dsl router, unknown model in my basement, and it My XBox has worked for almost a year perfectly no problems, for XBox live, but now, after we plaid like all day, it came up with failed MTU on the test when I turned it on this morning, we have no clue what happened, we didn't do anything, we have restarted our router, everything you could think of, nothing works, any thoughts? I don't know how to change the MTU, but, why would it change on its own like that, we have had it for almost a year, and nothing ever happened!! It has nothing to do with our wireless laptop, so, what else, and out internet works on all of our computers, just not the XBOX~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~

If you look at the 5 other questions recently posted about the same issue, you will see that Xbox Live is down at the moment for scheduled maintenance. If this problem just started within the last few hours then that's the issue. If it happened before that then it may either a bad router or something wrong with your ISP.

You should have gotten a message from Xbox live saying that today (9-29-08)they were going to be down for maintenance or something like that. I totally forgot about the message but then remembered. Just wait until tomarrow and everything will be fine.

In computing device networking, the time period optimal Transmission Unit (MTU) refers back to the size (in bytes) of the biggest packet that a given layer of a communications protocol can bypass onwards. MTU parameters in a lot of situations seem in association with a communications interface. Set your router and make useful your router is setup and configured for 1492.

XBOX live is down for the day because of all microsoft's updates they're doing with a bunch of new high-tech stuff.
