Why is the XBOX 360 so noisy when it's powered up? And how do I reduce its noise?

After a few minutes of startup then its fan(s) started to spin at full throttle like a jet engine and I thought the box could take off anytime when you attach some wings to it.... It's so distracting.

How many fans does an XBOX 360 have?

The biggest noise maker in the 360 is the crappy dvd drive they put in it. It is the loudest when playing games because they have to spin the game disks at max speed to stream the data.



I was really hoping they would have corrected this for the elite, but NOPE.



Also, you guys should do a search on the after market coolers you are suggesting. They have been know to actually short out and ruin the usb port they are connecting to. DON'T USE ANY OF THEM.

The noise and heat is due to the 95 nm chips that the 360 AND the 360 elite are equipped with. Because the chips get so hot, the fans have to be at full speed allot of the time, causing allot of unwanted noise. You cannot really reduce the noise, but you can reduce the heat with an intercooler fan. The Xbox elite is just as loud as the premium and core xbox 360, they both have the same chips, I know that first hand, Thus, they have the same noise and heat problem.

first of all if its so noisy you cant bare you should call the support line. the nyco intercooler definately does not reduce sound but dies reduce heat. so therefore call 1-800-4My-Xbox

You cold do the smart thing and SELL IT and then buy a PS3. I have both and I like the ps3 way better. since it is still fresh it doesnt have that many good games yet but the games that are coming out are the best.

You cant really reduce it that much try cooling it down with a fan oa buy a cooling sony fan specificlly for X-Box i have the same problem but you could also think of getting the elite xbox elite it doesnt make any noise i sold my xbox for elite trust me ????????????????????????????????????????????????

try buying the intercooler from nyko, it cools it down and reduces noise!
