My son loves gaming, but his Xbox 360 broke. He has a iPhone 4 but it doesn't work properly.. Should I buy him a PS4/Xbox One or a iPhone 6? What would you do? His birthday is soon. Thanks.

buy him a ps4 or xbox if he really likes gaming, then an iphone is not the way to go, considering that although the screen is quite nice in terms of size its not the ideal gaming device. If he doesn't have a phone and he's old enough to, the iphone would be nice. Honestly ask him. I was never a kid who liked surprises. If my parents were going to buy me something expensive, at least ask me so i can have an input so I get something I actually like, because you spent all that money on it. You're kid would appreciate you asking him because the ps4 xboc and iphone 6s are all expensive, if he doesnt like the iphone he's gonna be stuck with a $650 device he doesnt like. Theres no harm, just causally ask him, ither we whether he expects it or not he will be happy, and that's your goal I assume.

From my personal experience with the consoles while it is very much up tot he persons personal choices I would advise an Xbox One for your son since he had an Xbox 360 as the One has the ability to play a load of 360's games he probably already owns for free, plus any content you may have purchased on the xbox or on windows will be on it compared to with the PS4, not on the matter of phone Vs. Console it really depends on what sort of stuff he would be using it for, so if your son loves gaming I would advise the console (or maybe even a gaming laptop or PC), however if he loves being out and about and going places maybe the phone would be better, also the other option is to just maybe see which he would prefer by slipping him hints or just casually asking him as though its for christmas or something:)

Also in relation to other consoles out there may I advise against buying Steam machines or Nintendo consoles apart from the Wii Original as to be honest they just don't have the same game selection as any of the other devices out there. Also here's some of the other differences incase the whole backwards compatibility thing doesn't sell you on it and you want more info:

Xbox:

-More Games (Exclusives this holiday season)

-Has the coming ability to record live TV and put it onto phones and tablets (currently has the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward live TV while also controlling the TV in general but the PS4 also has this)

-Again the backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360

-Voice commands (becoming cortana later on i.e. an Artificially Intelligent assistant)

-More reliable servers for online play as shown by the Lizard squad attacks last christmas

-Close functionality with Windows 10 allowing for remote play on any windows 10 device i.e. any Windows tablet/Phone/Desktop, plus more app's from Windows 10

-In the future Microsoft may implement the cloud, allowing for more computational power for the Xbox than the PS4 (however there is a massive ? over this feature)

PS4:

-Slightly more bandwidth allowing for slightly more computational power (not really obvious though in game)

-Has a better social aspect with it due to more people owning the PS4 due to Microsoft bumbling a few years ago

-Exclusives your son may want to play

-Slightly cheaper multiplayer (at least last time I checked)

-Is smaller than the Xbox

Since he's a gamer and already owns an Xbox 360 I would go with the Xbox One over the PS4 because he'll be more familiar with it. The iPhone 6 is an excellent device but it's not ideal if you're mostly using it for gaming.

Hi, Brian!

For kids, these consoles can be a great idea, but which one you should get depends on the child's age.

for example, the PS4 or Xbox One is a perfect idea for a teenager, because (ie.) 15 year old gamers love shooters or blood/gore, etc, but for little kids... they would be that one annoying kid on xbox live screaming into the microphone. For teenagers, a grat idea for the Xbox One or PS4

The war has been going on for a whole long while, between Xbox One and PS4, and I'm sure that most everyone agrees that it depends on preference. They both have (mostly) the same games, and they have comfortable controllers, and in the parent's eyes... that's it. Really dumbing down to the basics though:

- Xbox One has motion controls (If you purchase the Kinect)

- PS4 is very social when it comes to playing with friends

- Xbox One has very good multitasking

- PS4 is a very powerful machine

- They both have console exclusives

- They are exactly the same price

You can look on the websites for more:

For young children, I would still be looking at Nintendo. I'm so sorry, hardcore gamers, but Nintendo is perfect for families. (Death treats can be sent via the comments!). The Wii U is great for young children.

Now about the phone. iPhone 6 is probably one of the really good choices (...for people who know NOTHING about android...), I would also check out Samsung's phones. Android is one of my favorites because of it's customizability. The 6 edge and the Note 5 is out so I think they should have a sale for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 4, but that is just my preference. iPhone has a great user interface and very good, apps.

Again, for a young child, I don't think a phone would cut it. Apple quietly released the new iPod Touch, which has more power than the last one. For a child, that would be a great choice. An iPad (mini is a great one) probably comes in second in my opinion.

Overall, I don't think that these aren't THE choice for consumer electronics, and choosing most any of them will be great; but these are just some tips

I'll tell you what. I have two ideas both WILL SAVE you MONEY!!!

I'm a gamer myself and i have Two options: 1, If he's 360 is broken maybe consider just getting him another 360. They are much cheaper than xbox ones at the moment and he would appreciate being able to play his fav games rather than a new console where he'd have to buy completely new games.

2nd, Most games stores will charge about $80-90 AUD to get them repaired, even if they are not advertised. Chances are that game-freak behind the counter will know a guy.

And with that money saved if you want you could put that towards his phone.

It all depends on what games he likes. All of them have exclusive games that he cannot have on the other systems. Find out what games he wants to play and then get him the system that has those games.

- If he loves Halo or Gears of War for example, buy him a Xbox One.

- If he loves Uncharted or Gran Turismo buy him a PS4.

- If he wants to play sports games like Madden NFL, FIFA or NHL you can just buy whatever console you'll get the best deal on, since both will have the games he likes.

I'd suggest a DS Lite. Yeah, it's a touch old school now, but you can still find them, and you can still find games for them, if you go to a thrift store, a videogame shop that sells used things, eBay, Amazon, etc. You can play so many different games on the DS Lite. It will play both Game Boy Advance games and DS games. And they last quite a while, too. Why am I suggesting this? It sounds like your son could use something sturdy that will work for a long time and that provides variety. If the DS Lite is sturdy enough for me, it's sturdy enough for anyone. Trust me. I'm clumsy as heck, I'm very hyper, and this DS Lite has lasted me since I was in 1st Grade and it's still goin' strong!

I would be happier to recieve a xbox1/ps4 instead of a phone. C'mon, you cant play Call of Duty, Halo, or Madden 16 on a phone.

A new phone, he can download games from the App Store if he likes games a lot. All though you could ask him himself which one he'd prefer, but the iPhone 6 I'm sure he'll love. If anything get the iPhone 6s!

How about buy him something cheaper and donate the rest to charity.

Or just fix the old gaming console and phone instead of buying new stuff.
