I've just purchased an Xbox 360 Arcade Pack (has the HDMI built in, unlike models pre-November 2007)

I have a 22'inch LCD Monitor. (http://www.proview.com/Product/Product_Page.aspx?sn=445&pi=118&ii=3480) It has 2xVGA ports and 1xDVI.

I want to buy a HDMI to DVI cable so that i can plug my xbox into the monitors DVI port. Also, can i use the standard xbox component cable (the one with the audio & video cables) to output audio to my stereo, but while having my xbox 360 connected to the monitor via HDMI-DVI.

Also, does my moniter support HD? if so what will i get? (720, 1080 etc)

Mark is suitable. DVI does no longer carry audio. yet DVI and HDMI do use the comparable protocol for digital video that's why they have compatibility. the only component that's new approximately HDMI is that it has digital audio (SPDIF) and digital video in one cable. some abode cinema receivers have a HDMI throughput. It has one (or greater) HDMI inputs and then takes the audio and sends it out to loudspeakers as 5.a million embody. The HDMI output you ought to use including your HDMI -> DVI adapter and plug into your HDTV. this may well be a $ one thousand investment yet because you have a HDTV and because sound is greater desirable than 0.5 the journey... choose for it. maximum receivers additionally take care of SPDIF audio out of your XBOX too of course.

your monitor is a vga, so first you would need to buy the xbox branded hdmi cable, its the only way since the xbox doesnt have a hdmi port, forcing you to buy more of their accessories, after you have the hdmi cable you need to get a hdmi to vga cable, then hook it up, it wont be hd, but close
