Question:
Xbox 360 iXtreme 1.6 firmware ban question?
2009-11-06 17:43:51 UTC
Hey guys,

On Tuesday, November 3rd, I downloaded Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Obviously this is before the release date. I am running iXtreme 1.6 firmware, I used the activate.iso disc to boot up the game. I heard that playing a game before its released can get you banned from live because of the internal clock, even if you are playing offline. Well, I played it offline, with my hard drive connected. When I sign into xbox live (which probably wont be until at least November 10th, the release date), am I going to be banned? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent/fix it? I have not been banned yet, but I have not been on live since I got my drive flashed back in September. I am kind of nervous. I run the majority of my games through ABGX to be safe. Any response is well appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

Well Andy's answer is wrong for his reasoning. Your account will most likely get banned and your console may have a chance of getting banned as well but this is because you played your game early. They used to never ban for playing early but since mid-October they have been banning user accounts for playing games early before release.

They cannot detect modded consoles and can only detect whether your disc verifies as a normal disc so the copy you got has to be a perfect stealthed copy of the original disc. The only way to verify this is by using ABGX but we won't know if it's a retail copy until the game releases. There is a updated firmware(1.61) that doesn't require the activate.iso disc to boot the game. But it may be too late for you since you already played the game early. Microsoft tends to do a lot of banning around November. The safest way is to always wait till release and run whatever copy you got through ABGX and then play it if it verifies.

Hopefully Microsoft is lenient and only bans your gamertag. In that case you can just make a new profile if you want and play.

Even though it is probably too late for your 360 I wanted to post this answer because I know a lot about how they ban and I hate when people with little knowledge on the subject try to make up an answer that they "assume is right" or they make up an answer just because they are against the fact that pirates exist. I made this account just to post this answer and help anyone who trys searching about information on how the bans are working now. It may make my answer less trustworthy since I'm a new profile but a quick search through any private trackers will tell you the exact same information I just mentioned.

Don't play the game at all right now. Wait till tomorrow, when the game releases. I ******* got banned last week for playing Forza Motorsport 3 a week before the actual release date; I didn't even log onto Xbox live with the game running. I know for sure Microsoft caught me when my 360 sent information to Xbox live about the games I recently played the last time I went online. It doesn't matter if you play it offline. Ppl told me that it would be safe to play a pre-released game only if I played it offline, but they were wrong. You're screwed if you stick that game in before the release date today at midnight. It's also best to update to the new firmware ixtreme 1.6.1 and so you can both have support and security for the new wave 4 games. I know for sure version 1.6.1 is out already as I just downloaded it and got Jungleflasher to confirm that it was 1.6.1.

As of today November 10.

Xbox live is banning many and many systems that are on Ixtreme.

Recent studyies by users are showing that Xbox live is detecting the drive fw because of the xbox nxe updates.

M$ may be banning systems by random but the only thing you shud do is stay offline untill further notice by the iextreme makers.

Now there is a deveolpment of a new fw which may hopefully solve all our problems.

people are getting banned without playing any backups so therefore has to be xbox banning by noticing the drive fw. how else would they know?

stay offline and you have a good chance to not be banned .. its a chance so not for sure.

both 2 answers are right in ways and wrong in others, you should not play games early even if you get them"online or offline". these console are designed to save information of what is done while the console is disconnected and of course as soon as you sign into xbl all of that info is sent straight to M$. when this happens you wont automatically get banned, they are randomly sending signals to consoles if the signal comes back with different keys(drive flash) it will then ban you. it doesn't ban your profile nor does it do anything to your hard drive, but the console itself will never be able to return to xbl. Or will it? there are a few ways of making it possible, but most people do not know them. and it has to do with once again modding. one more thing . . . its only hardware mods that get banned not (softmods, ie: dashboard, avatar, etc.)

Yea, you will maximum possibly be banned in case you do any form of no longer uncomplicated mod on your console and then attempt to play on xbox stay. in case you dont use Xbox stay, then pass forward and mod away.

Could always format your Hardrive , then recover your gamertag . might be possible this way to remove the game save. Im sure its not very hard to tell if you played a game early because of the time stamp on the game save.

ya you will get banned because they can:

View who has a modded console easily which you do

See who plays the game before it is released and if they got the game illegally

there is no way to prevent it

if you play XBL on that account again you will get banned eventually (maybe not right away but you never know)

you need a new xbox and a new account if you want to safely play...

its so stupid when ;people do illegal things and then expect not to get in trouble...

well some stores do get the game a week in advance like gamestop and blockbuster. if you're not running stealth or anything that prevents them in catching you then it shouldn't be a problem.
