You maybe confused between speed and allowance. I have used xbox live with a 0.5 meg connection and it was perfect for on-line racing, such as Need for Speed and DUB Edition. It was not so good for Halo and Halo2 as you could be shot before you even knew that there was anyone approaching. I now have an average connection speed of 5.6 - 6 meg and its fantastic for any game, even at peak usage times and with two computers also online!. Your usage allowance is the amount of data that you can download. 5gb should be more than good enough, unless you are a real hardened gamer (24/7). If you go over, then your service provider should email you to let you know in the first instance. Then should only charge you extra, if you go over on a regular basis (Look it up under "Fair Use" in your terms).

As long as you have "broadband" it'll work. Go for at least a 512kbps connection speed (which in the UK will probably have a 256kbps upload speed) and it'll work perfectly. Just don't run any downloads on the PC while you play or it'll not work. Xbox Live doesn't allow you to connect to a game if your connection speed isn't high enough. As for the allowance of 5GB, this will be plenty for playing on Live. Only a minimal amount of data is transferred for online gaming, as most data (for graphics and sounds etc - the actual game) are on the disc in your console - all that is transmitted is the current position of each of the players etc. If you intend to also use the connection with your PC and/or will be downloading demos etc from Xbox Live you probably want a larger download cap.

test your mbps on speed test.net

my download speed is: 19.6 mbps

my upload speed is: 3 mbps

i heard this:

5 mbps or lower = mediocre speed

6-10 mbps = okay speed

11-20 mbps = great speed

21-30 mbps = perfect speed

i have 18 mbps and my xbox live never unexpectantly drops unless there is a storm outside where i live. but 10 mbps should be good althought you may be disconnected once a while depending on who the part host is on mw2 and if there NAT is compatible with yours/ there router is really good.

Most cable modems are perfectly fine, anything slower is too slow, and anything faster (T1, fiber optics) is even better.
