Thinking of getting an X-BOX 360. Don't have enough money for a new one so I am going for a second hand one. Just want to know, how long would a second hand X-BOX 360 last because I don't want to waste my money on one then it dies after a week?

I just went through the process of buying a XBOX 360 and had the same concern as you. After doing some research, I found that it's kind of a bad idea to buy a used XBOX 360. Apparently, they can get this thing called the "red ring of death" where your XBOX is completely bricked and it just doesn't work anymore. People selling their XBOX 360s often do so because of this red ring of death, and you have no way of knowing you're buying a useless box. Even getting it used at your local game store might yield you a faulty game system, as they generally only make sure it turns on before they sell it.
I happened to luck out and have a friend who is selling his XBOX, so I bought it from him at a fair price, and I know him, so I know he isn't just trying to scam me. But if I didn't know him, I would have just bought a new one. It's much safer that way.

It's an xbox 360 not a pair of batteries. You can tell the condition by looking and using your common sense. The only thing to worry about is the insides. But mostly you can tell whats , what. Mostly Xboxs just sit by the tv so you can tell if it was moved a lot because of the body damage. The inside there is not a way to tell just have the seller let you turn it on and play a bit. If the game lags (and it's not because of the game) then it's a system problem. You can go to certain stores and get 1 with a warranty on a used xbox...like your local gamestop or funcoland store...whatever is where u live. check out ebay.com or half.com if you want to buy online. If you want to see the game work for yourself use craigslist.com and it will show you a list of private sellers in your area if you have any...just be care full. I bought off there plenty of times but it requires to go meet a stranger (the person who is selling) so take a friend or someone with you.

Dude it would be best to save your money on a cheap XBox 360 or then again if you seriously need it now, you should ask the people who sell the second-hand 360's for guarantee and if it breaks, they will give you your money back. But best would be to buy a new one.

This does depend on how well the previous owner has looked after it, but you can get them second hand from the likes of GAME or similar with a 12 month minimum warranty. Also if you happen to have a premium account with your bank you may be covered for an additional 12 months e.g. Barclays Grad Additions.

Don't buy the old white ones at all, the black models have fans in them so the red ring issue no longer exist. each red block represented a different problem so probably many of people threw away their xbox because they had a bad cable.
But with a black model you should be fine on all accounts just make sure the seller provides some kind of warranty

I brought a three year old one from ebay last year and it's still going strong, never had any problems with it. It depends on the individual xbox some are in good condition and will last for ages and some aren't
